About the Artist

My work is about color and movement, echoing the beauty and rhythms of nature and life. Most of my paintings are created with many thin layers of acrylic glazing, producing complex and beautiful colors with a lot of luminosity.  New textures and shapes form with each new layer.  This method takes a long time to design and finish, as every layer must completely dry before painting another.  Hues  sitting on top

I have  been an artist for 27 years.   I studied photography and painting at American University, the Washington Studio School and through the Smithsonian Institution.  During my years as a professional underwater photographer, my work was exhibited, published and internationally awarded.  I began painting early in my art career - first oils  on canvas, capturing  my images of sea life.

Painting in my Santa Fe studio

of each other, rather than mixed or applied thicker, creates new colors, texture and a lot of depth.  When the painting is finished colors and shapes appear through all the earlier layers.

About fifteen years ago I transitioned to acrylics on canvas and moved from realism to abstract. No longer diving and photographing, my love of color and shape continues through my paintings.

My work is in corporate and private collections nationally and internationally including Washington, DC, Scottsdale, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Canada and South America. I've exhibited in many shows and galleries from coast to coast, most recently at the Southern Nevada Museum of Fine Art in Las Vegas, the Eldorado Open Studio Tour in Santa Fe and Belle of the West Gallery in Madrid, NM.
